Submission Guidelines

Calling all poets!

*Speckled Trout Review is planning a special print issue for the fall on the theme of CRISIS.
In a lifetime we experience crises of the heart, the mind, and the body, as well as global crises–the present COVID-19 pandemic, racial unrest and social injustices, and natural catastrophes that leave indelible impressions.

We want to hear from poets whose speakers come out stronger after a crisis. We will begin fielding submissions on August 1. The deadline is Oct. 15. Each contributor will receive one copy of Fall 2020 (2.2). Please read the guidelines below before submitting.

Editors of Speckled Trout Review welcome submissions of unpublished poetry pertaining to the theme noted above (nothing previously published in an electronic publication of any kind or print) for its Fall 2020 (2.2) issue. Poets can paste up to 3 poems, followed by a 50-word writer’s biography and mailing address, in the body of an e-mail to Please note: attachments will go unread. Poems with overt political messages are not for Speckled Trout Review. Simultaneous submissions are fine, but please share the good news when a poem finds a home elsewhere. For any questions about submissions or Speckled Trout Review, reach out to us at the above e-mail address.

For contributors whose work appears in either a fall or spring issue, we ask poets acknowledge Speckled Trout Review as the original publisher of the poem(s) in any subsequent publication thereafter. We reserve the right to archive accepted poems on the Speckled Trout Review website indefinitely and to publish work in a future anthology.
